Netherlands v Austria – Euro2024 Group D Predictions & Betting Tips

Recommended tip Draw

Group D is a tight group, with the Netherlands and France at the top of the table with four points each and Austria just behind them with three points.

We have been impressed with both of these teams, to be honest, Austria didn’t look out of their depth at all against the favourites for this group, France, losing 0 -1 to an own goal by Max Wober.

The Netherlands have also been looking good, drawing 0 – 0 with France in what was an extremely entertaining game.

Both teams could do with at least a point in this match and a win would secure automatic qualification to the round of 16.

Odds and Predictions

There is little doubt that the Netherlands are the better side here, on paper anyway, and the bookies have got them priced up as favourites at odds of 2.20, Austria are 3.60 and the draw is 3.10.

We’re not sure how this game will pan out in terms of both teams going hell to leather or it will be more of a tactical encounter, especially by the Netherlands, who have the attacking talent to catch Austria on the break.

Our predictions are going to start by going with the 3.10 which is available for the draw, and a scoreline of 1 – 1 at odds of 6.5.

For the last one of our tips, we are recommending a bet in the ‘To score at any time’ market. Cody Gakpo is the selection at odds of 3.20, which we feel is a good price, we had priced it up to be slightly shorter than that.

Expected Line Ups

We have been surprised by Cody Gakpo and the way he has been playing for the Netherlands, obviously a quality player, but he looks so much more comfortable playing for his country than he does when playing for Liverpool.

Defensively, Austria has performed well and their manager, Ralf Rangnick, must take credit for the way he has organised his team.

Netherlands (4-3-3) Bart Verbruggen; Denzel Dumfries, Stefan de Vrij, Virgil van Dijk, Nathan Aké; Jerdy Schouten, Xavi Simons, Tijjani Reijnders; Jeremie Frimpong, Memphis Depay, Cody Gakpo.

Austria (4-2-3-1) Patrick Pentz; Phillipp Mwene, Gernot Trauner, Kevin Danso, Stefan Posch; Nicolas Seiwald, Alexander Prass; Christoph Baumgartner, Marcel Sabitzer, Michael Gregoritsch; Marko Arnautović.

How Far Will These Teams Progress in the Tournament?

As it stands, we believe the Netherlands and France will fill the top two places in Group D and if this game ends in a draw, as we predict, Austria will finish the group stage with four points, which has been enough in the last two European Championships to qualify for qualification.
